Sunbrush mobile “rapid”, mounted on mini excavators, for the cleaning of closely positioned solar modules and the improved Sunbrush mobile “compact”

Lachen, Bavaria, 18 June 2018: The Sunbrush Mobile Co. (SBM), provider of cleaning solutions for photovoltaic systems, is presenting two innovations at the Intersolar Exhibition 2018. The compact Sunbrush mobile “rapid” is the ideal solution for cleaning rows of closely positioned solar modules.  The improved Sunbrush mobile “compact” cleaning system now comes with a dust guard, which shields it from environmental damage. Both systems are on display at the SMB Stand 354 in Hall A3.

When it comes to photovoltaics, desert regions and regions near the equator have something in common: The rows of PV modules stand closer together because the sun shines in at a steeper angle.

This is a good thing as it makes for a higher yield, but only as long as the modules are free of dust and other impurities, which are unfortunately common in these regions. In the development of PV systems, the narrow lanes between the rows of PV modules are usually not taken into consideration, which has up until now made it difficult to maintain and wash the solar panels. For this very purpose, Sunbrush Mobile Co. developed the rapid machine, a compact cleaning machine that can be mounted on a mini excavator with a quick-change system.

The Sunbrush mobile “rapid” has the patented “Washtronic”, which holds the brush pressure at the desired setting. Due to its small size the “rapid” cleaning system can be deployed in PV parks with narrow lanes. In addition to that, it can be used in standard PV parks as well as those with tracker systems, which makes the system extremely flexible. The operator of a mini excavator can use the Sunbrush mobile rapid to clean solar panel tables of up to six meters in height without having to make an empty trip, as the system can be rotated 180 degrees to clean the neighboring tables on the return trip. Solar tracker systems mounted on crossbars can also be easily cleaned. The rapid is easy to transport and can be loaded onto a standard trailer along with the mini excavator. The water tank can be hung onto the dozer blade and thereby carried along.

The Sunbrush, proven and tested over many years, has been further improved by SBM. The new model has a closed construction and a protected machine head, thus guaranteeing protection from sand, dust, and moisture. As a consequence, the cleaning solution requires less maintenance. Moreover, the manufacturer has refined the design of the hydraulic steering to make the operation easier and more precise. The machine is also more compact, with a reduced width and height that gives the operator an optimal field of vision over the module to be cleaned.

Sunbrush Mobile Concept

Heavy dirt build-up on photovoltaic cells can reduce the yield by as much as 30 percent. Sunbrush mobile was developed to remove dirt, bird droppings, and dust from roof and open-field installations. The solar cleaning system, with its mobile cleaning brushes, can use lime-free rainwater or tap water treated with Sunbrush Blue additive or, as in desert regions, no water at all. The cleaning devices can also be used to clear away snow in winter. The cleaning solutions can be mounted on any available utility vehicle and are easily operated using a joystick. Sunbrush Mobile is a flexible system solution comprised of hydraulically propelled cleaning brushes of varying length and a water tank with pump, which can be mounted on the back of a utility vehicle for wet cleaning projects.
